What is a subdomain?
A subdomain acts as a distinct section within a main website and is often used by news sites to sort their stories into categories or topics. Think of it as a separate section under the big website's name. For example, in the URL markets.businessinsider.com, 'markets' is the subdomain. It's a part of the main Business Insider site that focuses on market news. Just like any official site, subdomains are secure and can't be faked.
Do you publish on subdomains the primary domain?
It's a bit of a mix. Some popular news sites like MSN, Associated Press, and The Globe and Mail post our stories on their main domain, such as msn.com. But other websites like Business Insider and Financial Content use special sections/subdomains like markets.businessinsider.com.
To find out which news sites use subdomains, simply click on the news site's name in any of our reports, then check the URL you are taken to.
